AbstractGuerbet (β branched) alcohols of varying chain length of even carbon numbers were synthesized by using single linear fatty alcohols ranging from 1‐octanol to 1‐dodecanol. All Guerbet alcohols having fewer than 28 carbon atoms and are liquid at 0 °C due to β branching. Synthetic base oils were prepared by reacting commonly available unsaturated fatty acids and dicarboxylic acids with Guerbet alcohols using p‐toluenesulfonic acid as a catalyst. These base oils were characterized by physical and tribological properties like viscosity, viscosity index, pour point, flash point, wear scar, weld load, coefficient of friction etc. and compared with commercially available 150 and 500 N base oils.

Disclosed herein is a fiber treating process which comprises treating fibers with one member selected from the following two compounds (a) and (b).
(a) An ester formed by the union of a polybasic carboxylic acid and a compound represented by the formula (1) below.

Stick-shaped solid cosmetic 10 comprises a wax with a melting point of 45 °C or higher and liquid oil, wherein the hardness of top portion 16 is 0.07 N to 0.38 N and the hardness of boundary portion 20, which is a border between a retained portion in inner holder 12 and a portion outside of the inner holder 12, is 0.03 N to 0.31 N higher than the hardness of the top portion, and wherein the hardness gradually increases from the top portion 16 to the boundary portion 20. Thus, the stick-shaped solid cosmetic 10 has smooth spreadability and excellent product strength.

An object of the present invention is to provide a novel makeup cosmetic successfully producing a bright fluorescent color and providing transparency (clearness). The present invention provides a makeup cosmetic comprising: (A) at least one or two or more oil-soluble dye selected from the group consisting of Red No. 218, Red No. 223 and Orange No. 201, (B) a higher fatty acid metal salt, and (C) an oily component, wherein a content of a pigment is 0.5 mass% or less; and the oil-soluble dye is dissolved or dispersed in the oily component. The makeup cosmetic of the present invention can produce a bright fluorescent color as well as transparency, and is suitable as a lipstick, a blusher or an eyeshadow.
