The deoximation of a variety of α,α′-dioxo-type oximes and oxime ethers was achieved under mild conditions using zinc/AcOH, which gave good yields of α,β-diketo esters.
Crotylboration of vic-diketoamides and vic-diketo esters was achieved with high diastereoselectivity and complementary regioselectivity. Disclosed is a composition including a carbonyl-substituted alkene including a dicarbonyl compound having an alkylene group between the carbonyl groups. At least one carbonyl group of the dicarbonyl compound includes an amide group. Another carbonyl group may be a keto group or carbonyl group including an amide group. The composition may include methylene keto malonamides and methylene dimalonamides. Also disclosed are polymers containing these compositions. These polymers may be a copolymer formed with the composition and another 1,1-disubstituted alkene. The polymers may contain multi-functional monomers and/or crosslinkers. The present teachings disclose combining, to form a mixture, a dicarbonyl compound having an alkylene group between the carbonyl groups, formalin or a formaldehyde precursor, and an acid catalyst. The process may form methylene dimalonamides, methylene keto malonamides, for example.
this study, we report an expedient synthesis of VTCs from cheap and easily available α,β-unsaturated carbonyls through permanganateoxidation under phase transfer condition. The key to this process is the presence of acetic acid additive that enhances the oxidation ability of permanganate.

stereospecific BF3-mediated α-ketol rearrangement of β-hydroxy-α-ketoamides yields isolable 2-difluoroboranyloxy-3-keto-amides. X-ray and NMR analysis reveal a carbonyl coordination of the boron by the amide not the ketone. The boron complexes are air-stable solids, can be purified by silica gel chromatography, and exhibit novel reactivity in bromination and superior stereoselectivity in dipolar cycloaddition
