cycloadditions between 3-oxidopyridiniums and the common bioorthogonal reagent dibenzocyclooctyne (DIBO) are kinetically tuned by substitution at the 5 position, where a linearHammett relationship is seen to favour electron donating groups. Second-order rate constants on the order of 1 M−1 s−1 have been achieved in acetonitrile at room temperature.
