    A film may be formed from film forming compositions which comprise at least one carboxamide based coalescing solvent. These coalescing solvents impart equivalent or improved wet-scrub resistance, block resistance, gloss, dirt pick-up resistance and leveling characteristics to the films on a substrate, without contributing to total VOC levels, when replacing conventional coalescing solvents. The present invention also includes a method for forming a film comprising applying a film forming composition comprising polyunsaturated reactive carboxamides to a substrate and curing the film under ambient conditions. The coalescing carboxamide solvents are suitable for paint, latex based caulk, adhesives and floor care applications.

    A thermal paper with a latent image (10) derived from a water-based security ink has more than one means of security. A variable light absorbing and/or transmitting pigment or dye in the ink is a first security means, and a water repelling agent in the ink is a second security means. A pseudo-watermark from the coloration of the ink under ambient conditions may be a third security means. Visible images can be generated from the printed ink upon exposure to UV or infrared light. The security ink includes a carrier for said pigment or dye, and the water repelling agent is dispersed in this carrier in an amount sufficient to render the ink waterproof once dried. By virtue of the waterproof nature of the latent image (10), visible images can also be generated by overwriting the latent image (10) with a water soluble ink.

    A print mediums (10) having a sense mark comprised of a near infrared fluorescent component which triggers automated operations without interference from printed text or images or the substrate. The near infrared fluorescent pigments are protected from contact with oxygen using a polymer resin. Apparatus for dispensing printed media comprises a print medium of this invention, detector (30) for sensing the mark, a logic element (45) for locating the mark and a paper transporting apparatus (50) controlled by the logic element. The apparatus can be incorporated in business machines such as automatic teller machines, cash registers, ticket dispensing machines and coupon dispensing machines.
