    The synthesis and the stereochemistry of new tetraspiro-1,3-dioxanes are reported. The configuration of isomers is discussed considering the helical chirality of spiranes with six-membered rings. The X-ray structures of three compounds exhibiting different configurations and conformations of the polyspiro skeleton are described. The flexible or anancomeric behaviour of the rings of the spiro skeleton is investigated by conformational analysis and dynamic NMR.

    Polyethylene terephthalate resin compositions are provided containing fillers, reinforcing agents or blends of such fillers and agents and selected alkali metal salts having anions which are oxides of Group IV of the Periodic Table, preferably carbonates and bicarbonates. Articles moulded from these compositions have high gloss surfaces and heat deflection temperatures when moulded at temperatures below 110°C. even without a pre-compounding drying stage.

    It is an object of the present invention to provide a thermoplastic elastomer composition excellent in softness, permanent compression set (both short- and long-term) and resistance to oil, and controlled in bleed-out of the softening agent. It is another object of the present invention to provide a formed article and composite formed article of the above thermoplastic elastomer composition. The present invention provides a thermoplastic elastomer composition containing (a) 100 parts by weight of at least one hydrogenated block copolymer, (b) 30 to 150 parts by weight of a non-aromatic-based softening agent for rubber and (c) 3 to 100 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin having a melting point of 70 to 140°C, determined by the DSC analysis, and melt viscosity of 400 to 100,000cps at 140°C, and formed article and composite formed article thereof.

    A surface-treated metal material is obtained by forming an inorganic surface-treating layer containing at least Zr, O and F as chief components but without containing phosphoric acid ions on the surfaces of a metal by the cathodic electrolysis or by forming an inorganic surface-treating layer containing at least Zr, O and F as chief components and having an atomic ratio of P and Zr of 0 ≦ P/Zr < 0.6 in the uppermost surface on the surfaces of the metal by the cathodic electrolysis at a low cost featuring high productivity, environmental friendliness, scar resistance, adhesion, workability and intimate fitting. By using a metal material obtained by coating the surface-treated metal material with an organic resin and, particularly, with a polyester resin, a metal can or a can lid exhibits excellent adhesion and corrosion resistance even at portions that are worked to a high degree. Further, the can lid exhibits excellent opening performance even after the sterilization by heating.
