Reactions of disubstituted and terminal acetylenes with CH2I2 and Et3Al in the molar ratio 1: 4: 6 lead to the selective formation of organoaluminumcompounds containing di-, tri-, or tetrasubstituted cyclopropane fragments depending on the nature of acetylene and reaction conditions.

Cyclopropanation of mono- and dialkyl-substituted alkynes under the action of CH2I2 and Et3Al afforded the corresponding 1-alkyl- and 1.2-dialkyl-substituted 1,2-diethylcyclopropanes in 65-80% yields.
