Allenes and enones undergo diastereoselective reductive [3 + 2] cycloaddition to form cyclopentanols in very good yields in the presence of CoI2(dppe), zinc, zinc iodide, and water.

Synthesis of terminal allenes via a copper-catalyzeddecarboxylativecoupling reaction was developed. Aryl alkynyl carboxylic acid, paraformaldehyde, and dicyclohexylamine were reacted with CuI (20 mol %) in diglyme at 100 °C for 2 h to produce the terminal allene in moderate to good yields. The method showed good functional group tolerance.

In the Co(2)Rh(2) heterobimetallicnanoparticle-catalyzed carbonylative [2+2+1] cycloaddition of allenes and carbon monoxide, the allenes formally serve both as an excellent alkene- and alkyne-like moiety within a Pauson-Khand-type process.

preparation of various monosubstituted arylallenes, disubstituted allenes and alkenylallenes via palladium-catalyzed coupling of allenylstannanes with aryliodides or alkenyl iodides is described. The coupling reaction was carried out in the presence of Pd(PPh3)4 and LiClusing DMF as solvent. The possible role of LiCl in this coupling process is discussed based on the 119Sn NMR studies.
