A new electrocatalytic conversion of alcohols to ketones and aldehydes was developed based on an electrochemical study of Shvo's complex. The oxidation of secondary alcohols was efficiently performed under mild conditions using a catalytic amount of Shvo's catalyst, in combination with a sub‐stoichiometric amount of 2,6‐dimethoxy‐1,4‐benzoquinone in N,N‐dimethylformamide at 80 °C. The hydroquinone
alcohols in the presence of cerium or ruthenium compounds in biphase reaction. Selective oxidation of secondary alcohols was performed in the presence of primary ones using cerium(IV) ammonium nitrate (CAN) or cerium(IV) sulfate (CS) as catalyst. For instance, treatment of 1,10-undecanediol with CS/NaBrO3 provided 11-hydroxy-2-undecanone in 82% yield. Ruthenium catalyzed biphase oxidation of alcohols

Hydrogen peroxide was employed as the terminal oxidant in the osmium tetroxide mediated oxidative cleavage of olefins, producing the corresponding aldehyde and ketone products. Aryl olefins are cleaved in good to excellent yield regardless of arene electronics. Alkyl olefins cleave in moderate to good yield for di- and tri-substituted alkenes.

Epoxidation of Olefinic Compounds with Combined Use of Molecular Oxygen and Propionaldehyde Diethyl Acetal Catalyzed by Cobalt(II) Complex. Efficient Method for the Preparation of Acid-sensitive Epoxides
Synthesis of acid-sensitive epoxides such as epoxide of bishomoallyl alcohol or chromene oxide was achieved by the epoxidation of corresponding olefins with combined use of molecular oxygen and propionaldehyde diethyl acetal catalyzed by cobalt(II) complex. Various silyl enol ethers and silyl ketene acetals, acid-sensitive compounds, were also smoothly monooxygenated into the corresponding α-hydroxy
