  Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von a-Halogencyclobutanonen der allgemeinen Formel (I) worin R' bis R5 die in der Beschreibung angegebene Bedeutung besitzen, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß ein Cyclobutanon der allgemeinen Formel (II) in einem aprotischen Verdünnungsmittel, mit einem substituierten, gegebenenfalls in situ erzeugten, Ammoniumperhalogenid bei Temperaturen von -20°C bis +60°C, gegebenenfalls in Anwesenheit eines Katalysators umgesetzt wird.
