State-of-the-art catalyst systems for hydroxy- and alkoxycarbonylations of olefins make use of palladium complexes. In this work, we report a complementary ruthenium-catalysed hydroxycarbonylation of olefins applying an inexpensive Ru-precursor (Ru3(CO)12) and PCy3 as a ligand. Crucial for the success of this transformation is the use of hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as the solvent in the presence of

Polycondensate, composition containing it, especially a nail varnish composition, and process for preparation. The polycondensate may be obtained by reacting: a polyol comprising 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups; a saturated or unsaturated non-aromatic monocarboxylic acid; an aromatic monocarboxylic acid containing 7 to 11 carbon atoms; and a saturated or unsaturated, or even aromatic, linear, branched and/or cyclic polycarboxylic acid, comprising at least two carboxylic groups COOH; and/or a cyclic anhydride of such a polycarboxylic acid.

The invention relates to a method of isolating sterols in commercial quantities from sterol-containing material by subjecting a solution of this material to a column-chromatographic separation; for isolating cholesterol from cholesterol-containing material, silica gel is preferably used as column packing and a mixture of, for example, heptane and acetone is preferably used as an eluent.
Composite consisting of a thermoplastic or thermosetting polymer or a vulcanized or non-vulcanized rubber containing yarns, cords and/or fabrics provided with a polyester-ester urethane as adhesive and which polyester-ester urethane contains 30 to 80% by weight of blocks of ester units of a high-melting polyester and 70 to 20% by weight of blocks of ester units of a low-melting polyester which are linked together through ester groups and/or urethane groups. The melting-point of the polyester-ester urethane is at least 160°C and the melting-point of the low-melting polyester is not higher than 100°C.
A composition comprising a polyphenylene ether, a polyamide resin and a compound having an unsaturated group and a polar group in combination in the same molecule kneaded therein, and optionally an impact resistance improving material kneaded in said kneaded product. Impact resistance can be greatly improved as compared with the composition having the all components kneaded at the same time.
