concise and rapid synthesis of 4-pyridinyl pyrroles involved in in situ generated 2H-azirine was developed. 1/7-Pyridinyl and pyridinium NIR Aza-BODIPYs with/without rigidity were further constructed. These pyridinyl Aza-BOIDIPYs displayed slight bathochromic shifts and maintained bright NIR emission compared with phenyl analogues.
