1-alkylpyrrole (alkyl: hydrogen, methyl, hexyl, dodecyl)by aqueous formaldehyde and dimethylamine hydrochloride, followed by reaction with iodomethane, affords the 1-alkyl-2,5-bis[(trimethylamino) methyl]pyrrole diiodide.
