A thorough mechanistic investigation has been performed on the reactions of primary and secondary amines with diazoacetates, which proceed uniquely quickly and efficiently when catalyzed by iron(III) corroles and porphyrins. Two major differences in relation to other metal-based catalysts are that the iron complexes are not poisoned by excess amine and that metal-carbene intermediates are apparently
3]‐sigmatropic rearrangement reaction involving allylic sulfides and diazo reagents (Doyle–Kirmse reaction) is reported. Engineered variants of sperm whale myoglobin catalyze this synthetically valuable C−C bond‐forming transformation with high efficiency and product conversions across a variety of sulfide substrates (e.g., aryl‐, benzyl‐, and alkyl‐substitutedallylic sulfides) and α‐diazo esters. Moreover
The catalytic effectiveness of ruthenium porphyrins for ylide generation in reactions of ethyl diazoacetate and diisopropyl diazomethylphosphonate with allylic amines, sulfides and iodides is described for the first time. These reactions result mainly in products of the [2,3]-sigmatropicrearrangement of intermediate allylic ylides.

Oxidative electropolymerization of tetraspirobifluorenyl porphyrin ruthenium(II) carbonyl complexes can be used to coat Pt electrodes with polymeric films; after being removed from the electrode, these polymeric materials are able to catalyze the heterogeneous cyclopropanations and 2,3 sigmatropic rearrangements with ethyl diazoacetate.

effectiveness exists between cyclopropanation of n-butyl vinyl ether and ylide generation with allyl methyl sulfide in reactions with ethyl diazoacetate. Twenty-two representative transition metal compounds have been examined, and ruthenium is identified for the first time to exhibit catalytic potential comparable to copper and rhodium catalysts for carbene transformations.
