Deuterodecarboxylation, the replacement of a COOD group by a D atom, proceeds with high specificity in good yields for a series of pyridine-2-carboxylic acids. Isomeric pyridine-carboxylic acids require higher temperatures to achieve decarboxylation and give multiply deuterated products.
