We report the successful transfer of reporter genes into the airway epithelium in vivo following the injection of a targeting complex consisting of the Fab portion of immunoglobulin G directed against the rat polymeric immunoglobulin receptor conjugated to poly (L-lysine), and noncovalently bound to plasmid DNA. This technique specifically delivered the transgene to the liver and lung, tissues in which this receptor is expressed.
