Although nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitrated PAHs), specifically, dinitrated PAHs, have been indicated as potent mutagenic and carcinogenic environmental pollutants, only a few di- and trinitrophenanthrenes (DNPHs and TNPHs) have been reported up to the present time.
