Facile synthesis of substituted dihydro-1,4-dithiins and -1,4-dithiepins from α-oxo ketene cyclic dithioacetals

A novel and facile synthesis of substituted 2,3-dihydro-1,4-dithiins and 6,7-dihydro-5H-1,4-dithiepins based on the reactions of α-bromo/hydroxy ketones with α-oxo ketenecyclicdithioacetals has been developed. A general mechanism for the reactions is proposed.

Tandem Thien- and Benzannulations of α-Alkenoyl-α-alkynyl Ketene Dithioacetals with Cyanoacetates: Synthesis of Functionalized Benzo[<i>b</i>]thiophenes

A novel domino annulation strategy for the construction of benzo[b]thiophenes has been developed. In the presence of Cs2CO3 and Ag2CO3, a wide range of alpha-alkenoyl-alpha-alkynyl ketene dithioacetals readily react with cyanoacetates in CH3CN at 110 degrees C under N-2 to afford multisubstituted benzo[b]thiophenes efficiently via tandem thien- and benzannulations. A plausible mechanism is also proposed.
Iododecarboxylation Reactions of α‐Oxo Ketene Dithioacetals: The New Route to α‐Iodo Ketene Dithioacetals
The iododecarboxylation reactions of alpha-carboxy ketene dithioacetals were presented. The alpha-iodo ketene dithioacetals 3 and alpha,alpha-diiodo ketene dithioacetals 4 were prepared in excellent yields simply from reactions of alpha-carboxy ketene dithioacetals 2 with iodine in aqueous media.
