Generation of an intramolecularly tethered, nonracemic diaryl cuprate followed by its oxidation with ground state oxygen at -78 degrees leads to a biaryl precursor to an ellagitannin. Subsequent attachment of the appropriate glucose unit completes the synthesis of the title compound.
