Convenient procedures were developed for selective and exhaustive reduction of alpha-azido-oximes that were easily prepared from aliphatic nitro compounds. Nitroalkanes were shown to be convenient precursors of beta-functionalized amines (1,2-diamines, iminophosphonates, beta azidohydroxyl-amines, alpha-aminooximes).

In developing clinically useful 99mTc-labeled radiopharmaceuticals for the evaluation of regional cerebral perfusion with singlephotonemissioncomputedtomography (SPECT), a number of substituted alkyl(aryl)piperidinyl bis(aminoethanethiol) ligands for chelating [99mTc]TcO(III) were synthesized. Each ligand forms two diastereomers, syn and anti, after reacting with a racemic mixture of the ligand
