The relative proportions of the epimeric alcohols obtained by reducing Pummerer's Ketone with a range of reagents have been determined, and the stereochemistries of these alcohols confirmed by europium shift studies. The reactions of Pummerer's Ketone with phenylcuprate, N,N-diethylaminopropyne, tosmic and hydrazoic acid have been investigated.
