A new stepwise synthesis method for the preparation of precisely defined oligo(p-phenyleneethynylene)s (OPEs) is described. High-purity monomer, trimer, pentamer, heptamer, and nonamer of OPEs with dihexyloxy side groups and trimethylsilyl (TMS) or thioacetyl (SAc) terminals have been synthesized.
