    A naphthalene derivative represented by the following formula (1) is provided. In the formula (1), Ar 1 and Ar 2 each represent an aromatic hydrocarbon cyclic group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms forming a ring. The aromatic hydrocarbon cyclic group has none of anthracene skeleton, pyrene skeleton, aceanthrylene skeleton and naphthacene skeleton. Ar 3 represents a benzene skeleton or a naphthalene skeleton. R 1 and R 2 each represent an alkyl group, a cycloalkyl group, an alkoxy group, a cyano group, a silyl group or a halogen atom. a and b each represent an integer in a range of 0 to 4. m and n each represent an integer in a range of 1 to 4.

The organic electroluminescence device includes an organic thin film layer between a cathode and an anode, the organic thin film layer including one or more layers, in which the organic thin film layer includes one or more light emitting layers and at least one of the light emitting layers includes a phosphorescent material and a host material. The host material has an essential structure in which a naphthalene ring is bonded to a fluorene skeleton, dibenzofuran skeleton, or dibenzothiophene skeleton. The organic electroluminescence device is a phosphorescent device having high efficiency and long lifetime.

    A naphthalene derivative represented by the following formula (1) is provided. In the formula (1), Ar1 and Ar2 each represent an aromatic hydrocarbon cyclic group having 6 to 18 carbon atoms forming a ring.
