  • Process for polymerizing a methacrylic ester or an acrylic ester

    (1) A methacrylic ester or an acrylic ester is anionically polymerized, using a polymerization initiator compound comprising an addition reaction product of a conjugated diene compound and an organic alkali metal compound, in the presence of a tertiary organoaluminum compound having in the molecule thereof a chemical structure represented by a formula: Al—O—Ar wherein Ar represents an aromatic ring; or (2) a methacrylic ester or an acrylic ester is anionically polymerized, using a polymerization initiator compound comprising an addition reaction product of an organic alkali metal compound and a compound having a 1,1-diaryl-1-alkene structure, by adding the ester in the form of a mixture with the above-mentioned specific tertiary organoaluminum compound to the polymerization system. In this way, various species of the esters can be anionically polymerized with a high initiation efficiency and a high living polymerization property in a solvent which can easily be recovered and reused under a mild cooling condition, using an organic alkali metal compound which has relatively good convenience.

    The present invention relates to a catalyst system comprising a procatalyst, a co-catalyst and an external electron donor, wherein the external electron donor comprises a compound having the structure according to Formula I: Si(L) n (OR 11 ) 4-n (Formula I), wherein, Si is a silicon atom with valency 4+; O is an oxygen atom with valency 2− and O is bonded to Si via the silicon-oxygen bond; n is 1, 2, 3 or 4; R 11 is a selected from the group consisting of linear, branched and cyclic alkyl having at most 20 carbon atoms and aromatic substituted and unsubstituted hydrocarbyl having 6 to 20 carbon atoms; L is a group represented by (Formula II), wherein, L is bonded to the silicon atom via the nitrogen-silicon bond; L has a single substituent on the nitrogen atom, where this single substituent is an imine carbon atom; and X and Y are independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom; a heteroatom selected from group 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 of the IUPAC Periodic Table of the Elements; a linear, branched and cyclic alkyl having at most 20 carbon atoms, optionally containing a heteroatom selected from group 13, 14, 15, 16 or 17 of the IUPAC Periodic Table of the Elements and an aromatic substituted and unsubstituted hydrocarbyl having 6 to 20 carbon atoms, optionally containing a heteroatom selected from group 13, 14, 15, 16 or 7 of the IUPAC Periodic Table of the Elements.

    A process for the production of a tetraalkoxy silane comprises reacting silicon with a lower alkyl alcohol in the presence of an alkali metal alkoxide catalyst, the reaction being carried out in the additional presence of from l to l0,000 parts by weight, per l00 parts by welght of silicon, of an ether which is (a) a linear ether of the formula: R¹ - O - (X-O)m-R² in which R¹ and R² are each a C₁-C₆ alkyl, phenyl or benzyl group; X is a linear C₂-C₈ alkylene group optionally substituted with a C₁-C₄ alkyl, C₁-C₄ alkoxy, alkoxyalkyl (in which each alkyl is a C₁-C₄ alkyl), phenyl or cyclohexyl group; and m is an integer from l to 8, provided that when m is 2 or more, the groups X may be different; or (b) a cyclic ether of the formula: in which Y is a linear C₂-C₈ alkylene group optionally substituted with a C₁-C₄ alkyl, C₁-C₄ alkoxy or alkoxyalkyl (in which each alkyl is C₁-C₄ alkyl) group; and n is an integer from 2 to l0, provided that the groups Y may be different.

    A solid titanium catalyst component comprising (a) magnesium, (b) titanium, (c) a halogen, (d) a polyether, (e) a hydrocarbon and (f) an electron donor other than the polyether (d) as essential components is provided. Also a process for preparing a solid titanium catalyst component for olefin polymerization, comprising the steps of contacting a halogenated magnesium compound with a compound selected from the group consisting of an alcohol, an ether and an ester in a hydrocarbon solvent to obtain a magnesium compound solution, contacting the magnesium compound solution with a polyether and contacting the resultant solution with a liquid titanium compound is provided. Further, a catalyst for olefin polymerization comprising the above-mentioned solid titanium catalyst component, an organoaluminum compound catalyst component and an electron donor, and a process for polymerizing an olefin using the catalyst for olefin polymerization are also disclosed. By the use of the catalyst for olefin polymerization, an olefin (co)polymer having uniform particle size, less dust quantity, high bulk density and high stereoregularity can be obtained with excellent polymerization activity.
