(2R)-(tert-butyldiphenylsilyloxymethyl)oxirane and the (2S)-enantiomer from barium carbonate was developed. Methyl glycolate or the hydroxamate analog was prepared and in turn reacted with (S)-(-)-methyl p-tolylsulfoxide or the (R)-enantiomer to make β-keto sulfoxides.
