The reaction of tetrafluoroethylene (1), perfluorovinyl ether (3), hexafluoropropene (5), and 2-H-pentafluoropropene (7) with sulfur chlorides in anhydrous HF/BF3 system has been studied. Difluoro(heptafluoroisopropyl)nitrilosulphur, NSF2CF(CF3)2(I), has been prepared by reacting NSF3 with C3F6 in the presence of CsF at 90 °C; further addition of C3F6 gives (CF3)2CFSFNCF(CF3)2. Above 60 °C compound (I) isomerises to F2SNCF(CF3)2. Both cis- and trans-(CF3)2CFSF4NSF2 have been isolated from the reaction between SF4 and (I) in the presence of HF.
