    α-hydroxyketone derivatives represented by the general formula (I) which are novel optically active compounds; liquid crystal compositions, such as chiral smectic or chiral nematic compositions, containing the derivatives; and liquid crystal devices using the compositions. General Formula (I) wherein A and B are independently a radical represented by the general formula (II): wherein R2 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon having 1 to 16 carbon atoms, which may contain -0- and may be substituted by a cyano group and/or a halogen atom, are independently a single bond, etc., X and Y are independently a single bond, or -CH2CH2-, etc., or an aliphatic hydrocarbon having 1 to 16 carbon atoms; R1 is an alkyl group, a phenyl group, or a cyclohexyl group; n is 0 or 1; and the asterisk (*) indicates an asymmetric carbon atom.

    Encapsulated perfume composition comprising at least one aminoplast core-shell microcapsule dispersed in a suspending medium, the microcapsule comprising a perfume-containing core encapsulated in a shell, said shell comprising a network of cross-linked aminoplast resin, wherein 75-100% of the resin comprises 50-90%, preferably from 60-85%, of a terpolymer and from 10-50%, preferably from 10-25%, of a polymeric stabilizer; the terpolymer comprising: (a) from 20-35 wt %, preferably 22-30% by weight of moieties derived from at least one triamine, (b) from 30-60 wt %, preferably 40-55% by weight of moieties derived from at least one diamine, (c) from 20-35 wt %, preferably 22-30% by weight of moieties derived from the group consisting of alkylene and alkylenoxy moieties having 1 to 6 methylene units, preferably 1 to 4 methylene units and most preferably 1 methylene unit. The encapsulated perfume composition is useful for the storage and dissemination of fragrance in various products, such as laundry products and fabric care products.

    RhCl(TPFTS)(3) (TPFTS = m-trisulphonato triphenyl phosphine) was in situ encapsulated into the mesopores of hexagonal mesoporous silica (HMS) by in situ method. The catalyst was characterized by P-XRD, P-31-CPMAS NMR, FT-IR, N-2 adsorption, TGA, TEM and ICP techniques. These characterization confirmed the encapsulation and heterogenization of RhCl(TPPTS)(3). The synthesized heterogeneous catalyst evaluated for hydroformylation of vinyl esters gave 100% conversion and high selectivity to iso-aldehyde. Vinyl acetate was subjected as a representative vinyl ester for detailed investigations. The performance of the catalyst in terms of conversion and selectivity depended on the studied parameters: amount of the catalyst, substrate, partial pressure of CO and H-2, and temperature.
