  1-benzisoxazolium tetrafluoroborate (1a) gives the title nitrenium ion 2a. Under direct photolysis of 1a, in the presence of nucleophiles (i.e. ROH), quinone imine ethers such as (6) are the major product. Triplet sensitized irradiation gives both 6 and the parent amine 5.
