    Irradiation of 4,8-dialkylbenzo[1,2-d;4,5-d']bis[1,2,3]trithiole 2-oxides (2) in acetonitrile with a high pressure mercury lamp gave 4,8-dialkylbenzo[1,2-d;4,5-d']bis[1,2,3]trithiole 1-oxides (3) quantitatively. The present photochemical oxygen migrations of 2 and related sulfoxides were shown to proceed intramolecularly via an excited singlet state by O-18-labeled, cross-over, and triplet quencher experiments.

    Novel compounds, 4-tert.-butyl-1,2-benzenedithiol and bis(4-tert.-butyl-1,2-dithiophenolate) metal complexes having the general formula of ##STR1## wherein M represents a trivalent transition metal, and A represents a quarternary ammonium are provided. The novel benzenedithiol is produced by reacting 4-tert.-butylbenzenethiol or di(4-tert.-butylphenyl)disulfide with sulfur monochloride in the presence of iodine or a Lewis acid in a solvent, and then reducing the resultant product with a metal selected from the group consisting of zinc, tin, iron and aluminum in the presence of an acid. The novel Cu, Co and Ni complexes are produced by reacting the benzenedithiol with a salt of the corresponding divalent transition metal in the presence of an alkoxide metal or a hydride metal and a quarternary ammonium salt in a solvent under an oxidative atmosphere. The complexes strongly absorb rays in the region of ultraviolet, visible or near infrared, and are useful intermediates for the production of optical information recording media.

    derivatives by combining the indium-catalyzed reductive dithioacetalization of oxalic acid and electron-rich aromatic dithiols with a subsequent oxidation of the resultant dithioacetals. The same transformation of electron-rich aromatic dithiols with either 9-fluorenecarboxylic acid derivatives or dicarboxylic acids effectively produced the corresponding benzo-1,3-dithiafulvene derivatives.

    A polyurethane foam which is obtained by reacting an addition-polymerizable active hydrogen component comprising a compound having a group containing active hydrogen and an addition-polymerizable functional group or comprising both this compound and a compound containing at least 2.5 groups (on the average) containing active hydrogen and not containing addition-polymerizable functional groups with an organic polyisocyanate in the presence or absence of at least one auxiliary selected from the group consisting of foaming agents and additives to polymerize the addition-polymerizable functional group and simultaneously form a polyurethane, and which has a structure in which the chains formed by the addition polymerization have been cross-linked to the polyurethane chains. The polyurethane foam is useful as a rigid polyurethane foam excellent in hardness, dimensional stability, etc. and usable as a heat insulator, shock-absorbing material, synthetic wood, etc., or is useful as a soft polyurethane foam reduced in compression set and usable as a cushioning material, shock-absorbing material, sound insulating/absorbing material, etc.
