cyclohexenones (e.g., 2) of high enantiomeric purity, by ultraviolet irradiation of enantiomericallypure alkenyl cyclopropanes such as1 in the presence of Fe(CO) 5. Given the many strategies for the preparation of enantiomericallypure alkenyl cyclopropanes that are available, 3 this promises to be a versatile method for the construction of cyclohexane derivatives.
