    stereochemically unidentified antifungal agent in 1987 by Murakami. In this study, two stereoisomeric series of non-macrocyclic and macrocyclic DE-ring model compounds of 1 were synthesized, and the natural relative stereochemistry of the DE-ring was predicted by NMR comparison of 1 with these model compounds.

    Acidic monomer according to Formula I: in which A is a linear or branched aliphatic C 1 -C 18 -hydrocarbon group, which can be interrupted by one or more —O—, —S—, —CO—O—, —O—CO—NH—, —HN—CO—NH— or —CO—NR 1 —; R 1 is H or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group; X is absent or is a linear or branched aliphatic C 1 -C 10 hydrocarbon group, which can be interrupted by one or more —O—, —S—, —CO—O—, —O—CO—NH—, —HN—CO—NH— or —CO—NR 2 —; R 2 is H or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group; PG is a radically polymerizable group, preferably vinyl, allyl, CH 2 ═CR 3 —CO—Y— or R 4 O—CO—C(═CH 2 )—CH 2 —Y—; Y═O or NR 5 or is absent; R 3 is H or CH 3 ; R 4 is H or a C 1 -C 7 alkyl group; R 5 is H or a C 1 -C 7 alkyl group; n is 1, 2, 3 or 4; m=1 or 2; p=1, 2 or 3; and q=1, 2 or 3.     A general protocol for the highly exo-selective macrocyclization of ynals using a nickel/N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst system has been developed. A series of 10- to 21-membered macrocycles bearing an exomethylene substituent was synthesized in good yields with excellent regioselectivity (exo/endo >95:5). Very high levels of long-range diastereocontrol can also be achieved for some classes of macrocycles. Complementary to previously reported endo-selective macrocyclizations, this method provides accesses to exoalkylidene macrocycles from simple ynals in high selectivity.
