Enzymatic benzoylation provides an efficient alternative for protecting the 5'-hydroxy group of the parent nucleosides in a regioselective manner. Subsequently, tetra-hydropyranylation and tetrahydrofuranylation of the 2'-deoxynucleosides at the 3'-hydroxy group were accomplished with
