[Hg(O2CR)(2)] reacts with an equimolar amount of cis-Me4N[Pt(kappa(2)-Ar)(kappa(1)-Ar)Cl] (1) [kappa(2)-Ar = C-6(NO2)(2)-2,6-(OMe)(3)-3,4,5-kappa(2)-C,O; kappa(1)-Ar = C-6(NO2)(2)-2,6-(OMe)(3)-3,4,5-kappa(1)-C] or with cis-[Pt-(kappa(2) -Ar)(kappa(1)-Ar)(OH2)] (2) in a 2:1 molar ratio to give Me4N[Hg(mu-OAc)(2){Pt(kappa(1)-Ar)(2)Cl}] (5) or, depending on R, [Hg(mu-OAc)(2){Pt(kappa(2)-Ar)(2)}(2)] (6) or [Hg{Pt(kappa(2)-Ar)(2)(O2CR)}(2)] [R = Ar (7), C6F5 (8), CF3 (9)]. Refluxing in toluene a mixture of [HgAr2] [Ar = C-6(NO2)(2)-2,6-(OMe)(3)-3,4,5], [Pt(dba)(2)] (dba = dibenzylideneacetone), and (i) PPh3 (1:1:2) or (ii) bpy in molar ratio 1:1.3: 1.6 gave cis-[Pt(kappa(1)-Ar){Hg(kappa(1)-Ar)}L-2] [L = PPh3 (10), L-2 = bpy (11)]. Complex 10 reacts with XyNC (Xy = C6H3Me2-2,6) to give [Pt(kappa(1)-Ar){Hg(kappa(1)-Ar)}(CNXy)(PPh3)] (12). The structures of complexes 7, 9.CHCl3.CH2Cl2, and 10 have been solved by X-ray diffraction studies.
