  An enantioselective synthesis of N-Boc-(2S,3S)-3-hydroxy glutamic acid dimethyl ester (92% ee) is described. Starting from enantiomerically enriched (93% ee) (2S,3S)-2,3-epoxy-5-hexen-1-ol, easily available by Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation, the protected amino acid was prepared in 11 steps.
