    The invention relates to asymmetrically substituted phosphinic acids of the formula (I) R 1 R 2 C(OH)—P(═O)(OX)—C(OH)R 3 R 4 (I) in which X is hydrogen R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 are identical or different and are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl, aryl and/or alkaryl, with the proviso that the respective R 1 R 2 C(OH)— and —C(OH)R 3 R 4 groups are always different, to a process for their preparation, and to their use.

    Polyglycidylether, die dadurch erhältlich sind, dass man Acetophenon mit 0,7 bis 1,4 Mol Formaldehyd pro Mol Acetophenon in Gegenwart eines alkalischen Katalysators bei einer Temperatur von 50-100°C zu einem carbonylgruppenhaltigen Acetophenon-Formaldehyd-Harz umsetzt, das carbonylgruppenhaltige Harz zu einem modifizierten hydroxylgruppenhal­tigen Acetophenon-Formaldehyd-Harz hydriert, dieses Harz anschliessend mit Epichlorhydrin in Gegenwart eines Phasentransferkatalysators in den entsprechenden Polychlorhydrinether überführt, und diesen mit einer Base dehydrochloriert, eignen sich als Epoxidharze, z.B. für die Herstellung von Pulverlacken mit guter Chemiekalienbeständigkeit und Adhäsion.

    Novel polyurethane formulations especially useful as membranes for the protection of bridge deckings. The polyurethane is prepared by mixing two components, A and B. Component A comprises castor oil modified with a ketone-formaldehyde condensate and also preferably contains an elastomer. Component B is a modified MDI, being a mixture of diphenylmethane diisocyanate and its reaction product with a low molecular weight poly(oxyalkylene).

    Two component polyol/polyisocyanate composition useful in forming an abrasion resistant polyurethane automotive undercoating. The polyol component is unmodified castor oil or castor oil modified with cyclohexanone-formaldehyde condensate. The modified castor oil may be further modified by adding the reaction product of neopentyl glycol and adipic acid. The polyisocyanate component comprises an MDI-based mixture containing polyisocyanate prepolymers based on alkylene oxides.

    The present invention relates to polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles which exhibit slow-release properties and to a process for their production. The process comprises applying an isocyanate-reactive component to fertilizer particles, to form fertilizer particles coated with an isocyanate-reactive component, applying a polyisocyanate component onto the coated fertilizer particles to form polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles, and, optionally, repeating these steps as many times as necessary to form the polyurethane encapsulated fertilizer particles that contain about 2 to 20% by weight of polyurethane, based on the total weight of the encapsulated fertilizer particles. Suitable isocyanate-reactive components include polyesterether polyols that comprise either a blend of or the reaction product of (i) castor oil having an OH number of about 160 to about 170, a viscosity of about 500 to about 900 mPa·s at 25°C, and a water content of less than 0.5% by weight; and (ii) a polyether polyol having an OH number of from 28 to 700, a functionality of from 3 to 8, and a molecular weight of about 240 to about 6,000, and a viscosity of from about 50 to 35,000 mPa·s at 25°C. The polyether polyol must be prepared from a suitable initiator compound and an alkylene oxide comprising at least 70% by weight of propylene oxide.
