A detailed description is presented of the conversion of the racemic pregnene lactone I into d,l-aldosterone (XXVIII). In addition a physico-chemical procedure for the optical resolution of the intermediate acid VI is given, leading to the preparation of the ketol d-XV, which was transformed earlier into d-aldosterone(28).
