  Among a number of DMF dialkyl acetals investigated for the regioselective synthesis of 3-acylindolizines, the di-t-butyl acetal, via its iminium intermediate readily formed in situ, provides the highest chemoselectivity for the intermolecular cyclization of picolinium salts.
