A new, dual function colorimetric chemosensor and turn-off fluorescent probe based on pyrrolinone esters hydrazone dye bearing a terminal thiophene moiety (TPESHD) was designed, synthesized and investigated. The sensor exhibited highlyselective and sensitive detection toward Cu2+ in ethanol aqueous solution with detection limit up to 0.63 μM of copper ion. The distinct color change and fluorescence
absorption spectra of the prepared dyes and its solvatochromic behavior were investigated. These dyes displayed significant emission spectra in polycrystalline (powder) form, but no fluorescence observed in solution. The dyes were applied on polyester fabric using conventional high temperature exhaustion dyeing method, exhibited high tinctorial strength and bright fluorescent orange to reddish violet colors
