    Research on the selectivity of etherlfication reactions of diols and esterification reactions of diacids by alkyl halides under phase-transfer catalysis has shown that under such conditions, selectivity of monoetherification increases in the order prim < sec < tert diols, though overall yield of monoether decreases from sec to tert diols.     Disclosed herein are polymeric materials such as a coating, a plastic, a laminate, a composite, an elastomer, an adhesive, or a sealant; a surface treatment such as a textile finish or a wax; a filler for such a polymeric material or a surface treatment that includes an enzyme such as an esterase (e.g., a lipolytic enzyme, a sulfuric ester hydrolase, an organophosphorus compound degradation enzyme), an enzyme (e.g., a lysozyme, a lytic transglycosylase) that degrades a cell wall and/or a cell membrane component, a biocidal or biostatic peotide, and/or a peptidase. Also disclosed herein are methods of altering a material's property such as service life, flexability, or rigidity, by incorporation of an enzyme into a material capable of being chemically crosslinked by the activity of a lipolytic enzyme, a hydrolase, and/or a urease.

    It is an object of the present invention to provide a foamable thermoplastic elastomer composition which gives the stable foam. The present invention provides a foamable thermoplastic elastomer composition which contains:(a) 10 to 90 parts by weight of one of an olefin-based resin and rubber having a melting or softening point of 140°C or lower,(b) 9 to 85 parts by weight of heat-expandable microcapsules expanding at 120 to 300°C,(c) 1 to 50 parts by weight of a volatile composition, wherein the components (a) to (c) total 100 parts by weight, and another invention provides a foamable thermoplastic elastomer composition which contains :the above said (a) to (c) and (d) 50 to 99 parts by weight of a thermoplastic resin, wherein the components (a) to (d) total 100 parts by weight, and also provides a method of producing the above foamable thermoplastic elastomer composition in two stages.

    This invention relates to a family of aliphatic esters having the following general structure: R1—O—C(O)—R4—C(O)-[—O—R2—O—C(O)—R5—C(O)-]m—O—R3 in which: R1 is selected from one or more of the groups consisting of H, linear and branched saturated and unsaturated alkyl residues of the C1-C24 type, and polyol residues esterified with C1-C24 monocarboxylic acids; R2 comprises —CH2—C(CH3)2—CH2— and C2-C8 alkylene groups, and comprises at least 50% in moles of the said —CH2—C(CH3)2—CH2— groups; R3 is selected from one or more of the groups consisting of H, linear and branched saturated and unsaturated alkyl residues of the C1-C24 type, and polyol residues esterified with C1-C24 monocarboxylic acids; R4 and R5 comprise one or more C2-C22 alkylenes and comprise at least 50% in moles of C7 alkylenes; m lies between 1 and 20; at least one of R1 and/or R3 comprise polyol residues esterified with at least one C1-C24 monocarboxylic acid selected from the group consisting of stearic acid, palmitic acid, 9-ketostearic acid, 10-ketostearic acid and mixtures thereof. These esters are particularly suitable for use as plasticizers for various types of polymers such as for example vinyl polymers of the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) type, thermoplastic elastomers, and hydroxy acid polyesters, for example polyesters of lactic acid.
