The synthesis and characterization of a new supramolecular assembly, a calix[4]arene substituted Zn(II) metalloporphyrin 4 and benzoquinone 6, wherein photoinducedelectrontransfer through non-covalent interactions may be probed, is reported.

during the 3.7 ns lifetime of the photogenerated ion pair. The magnitude of this shift depends on the dielectric constant of the surrounding solvent. The data are used to calculate an electricfield strength of about 5.5 MV/cm at the carotenoid in toluene.
