Toners and their use in electrographic color processes are described. The toners are magneta toners containing rhodamine ester dyes as colorants. These ester dyes have a phenyl group in the 9-position which phenyl group contains a non-lactonizing ester substituent. Typical rhodamine ester dyes have the structure:
where each of R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 and R6 is H or an alkyl group, n is from 1 to 18 and Xe is an anion. Quencher dyes are used in the toners to quench fluorescent radiation that is emitted by the rhodamine dye esters upon excitation by visible light.
