    The simple and highly enantioselective methanolysis of cyclic meso-anhydrides mediated by cinchona alkaloids leads to a broad variety of dicarboxylic acid mono-methyl esters with up to 99% ee. From these products, unnatural N-protected β-amino esters can be obtained by means of Curtius degradation of the corresponding acyl azides. Subsequent cleavage of the protecting groups leads to the free β-amino acids in excellent yields. By enantiomer differentiating opening of racemic anhydrides, synthetically highly useful regioisomeric amino acid esters become readily available.

    A polyester having a weight average molecular weight of 10,000 to 200,000, a hydroxyl value of 30 to 200 mgKOH/g, an acid value of not larger than 5 mgKOH/g and a glass transition temperature of 35 to 60°C, which is obtained by polycondensing a polycarboxylic acid ingredient comprising as a principal ingredient a polycarboxylic acid compound selected from alicyclic polycarboxylic acids and anhydrides thereof, which have a carboxyl group at each of two adjacent carbon atoms, with a polyhydric alcohol ingredient comprising as principal ingredients an alkylene glycol having 2 or 3 carbon atoms and a tetrahydric or higher-hydric alcohol. By incorporating a modifier for polymer, comprising this polyester as an effective ingredient, in a polymer a polymer composition is obtained which gives a shaped article exhibiting improved adhesion to a thermosetting resin.

    An object of the present invention is to provide an air-drying polyester (meth)acrylate resin composition in a curing system of a ketone peroxide curing agent and a cobalt-based curing accelerator, the resin composition being used as a topcoat in the field of civil engineering and construction, and having such good properties as, when coated or stacked, being capable of forming a cured coating film with no bubbles remaining therein due to non-bubbling properties of suppressing the generation of bubbles in the course of the curing reaction and being free from problems related to room-temperature curability such as a retarded gelation time, even after being stored for about one month; a structure coated with the resin composition; and a method for applying the resin composition.
