1-(Hydroxyacetyl)pyrene has been introduced as a new fluorescent phototrigger for alcohols and phenols. Alcohols and phenols were protected as their corresponding carbonate esters by coupling with fluorescent phototrigger, 1-(hydroxyacetyl)pyrene.
