Terminal alkynes, under Au-catalyzed conditions, react with aromatic aldehyde diethyl acetals, affording propargylation products through C=O bond addition. Furthermore, AuPPh3Cl/AgOTf-catalyzed three-component reaction of aldehydes, alkynes, and triethyl orthoformate is developed.
