The reaction of dimethyl sulfide ditriflate with dimethyl sulfide leads to the formation of tetramethyldisulfonium ditriflate 1a representing a first example of acyclic S-S dication. Similarly was prepared S-S dication 1b from tetrahydrothiophene. It was found that dications 1a and 1b react with arylalkenes. The reaction forms the corresponding 1,2-disulfonium salts. A series of eight novel nitropyrazines has been prepared by oxidation of sulfoximine intermediates. The partition coefficient, one-electron reduction potential, sensitizer enhancement ratio, and chronic and acute aerobic cytotoxicity have been measured for each. Two representatives of this series were tested in the Ames test and were not found to be mutagenic.

We have synthesized sulfylimines of the furoxan series. It was shown that by oxidation of 4-dimethylsulfyliminofuroxans both nitro and nitroso derivatives, the first examples of nitrosofuroxans, can be prepared. With x-ray stuctural analysis the main structural characteristics of the sulfyliminofuroxans were established.
