    The present invention is based on the finding that micro-organisms can be detected and identified on the basis of a specific enzymatic activity present in the micro-organism to be detected. Methods and kits are described for the detection of micro-organisms using an arabinopyranoside substrate and more particularly methods and kits are described for the specific , sensitive and rapid detection of Aspergillus fumigatus.
