    It is shown that reaction of aryl, benzyl, alkyl and functionalised alkyl acrylic esters with benzaldehyde, in the presence of 1,4-diazabicyclo[2.2.2] octane, strongly depends upon the electronic and steric effects of the ester part. This influence is also observed in condensation of furfuraldehyde. Moreover, for the first time, it is shown that the overall condensation is equilibrated.

    cationic Ir-catalyzed tail-to-tail dimerization of aryl acrylates starting from vinylic sp2 C−H activation, which gives industrially useful adipic acid ester derivatives in high yields. We further expanded the reaction to an enantioselective dimerization using aryl methacrylates and achieved the first example of catalytic asymmetric dimerization of acrylate derivatives.

  • How Much Does the Hybridization of a Carbon Atom Affect the Transmission of the Substituent Effect on the Chemical Shift?

    systematically examined to find out the substituent effect on the chemical shift. The values of the chemical shift of the carbonyl carbon showed an inverse correlation with the Hammett σ values, and the magnitude of the slope was the largest with the propiolates. The α carbons of acrylates and propiolates also showed an inverse correlation with much smaller values of the slopes than those of the carbonyl carbons;

    Bis(2-pyridinethiol 1-oxide) copper salt which has been coated with one or more members selected among glycerol, dialkyl phthalates, lubricating oils, acrylic resins, rosins, fatty acid amides, dialkylpolysulfides, polybutene, paraffins, and vaseline. Since the the coated copper salt does not fly off, it has good handleability and is excellent in safety and workability. The coating does not adversely influence the storage stability and antifouling effect inherent in the copper salt. Thus, a ship bottom paint having an excellent antifouling effect and excellent storage stability can be obtained.

    A polymer containing a triphenylboron-containing constituting unit of the formula [I]: wherein each symbol is as defined in the specification, shows a superior adhesion-preventive effect against aquatic fouling organisms, such as coelenterates, shellfish, tubicolous polychaetes and the like, for a long time, shows a function of not only an active ingredient but also a binder, the polymer characteristically shows fine miscibility with other coating resins and a less adverse influence on the environment. Therefore, it can be used as a superior preventive of fouling due to the adhesion of aquatic fouling organisms.
