  The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of polysaccharides of 8 or more monosaccharide residues in length and polysaccharides accessible by these processes, the process comprising coupling a chain extending polysaccharide of four monosaccharide residues in length with a first polysaccharide of four or more monosaccharide residues in length.
