    Processes for the alcoholysis, inclusive of transesterification and/or disproportionation, of reactants are disclosed. The alcoholysis process may include feeding reactants and a trace amount of soluble organometallic compound to a reactor comprising a solid alcoholysis catalyst, wherein the soluble organometallic compound and the solid alcoholysis catalyst each independently comprise a Group II to Group VI element, which may be the same element in various embodiments. As an example, diphenyl carbonate may be continuously produced by performing transesterification over a solid catalyst followed by disproportionation, where a trace amount of soluble organometallic compound is fed to the transesterification reactor. Also disclosed is a process for reactivating a spent solid alcoholysis catalyst, such as a catalyst useful for transesterifications and/or disproportionations, the process including removing polymeric materials deposited on the catalyst and re-depositing catalytically active metals on the solid catalyst.

Also disclosed are nanocomposites containing the metal phosphate sols and at least one of metal nanoparticle and metal-chalcogenide nanoparticle. The nanocomposites containing metal nanoparticles may be chalcogenized to provide nanocomposites containing metal-chalcogenide nanoparticles. Also disclosed are composites containing a dielectric material such as a polymer and at least one of the metal phosphate sol and the nanocomposite.

    A method for producing a polyolefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compound and an organometallic compound, wherein a catalyst system is used which comprises: (A) a solid catalyst component prepared by reacting a uniform solution containing (I) at least one member selected from the group consisting of metal magnesium and a hydroxylated organic compound, and oxygen-containing organic compounds of magnesium, (II) an electron donative compound and (III) an oxygen-containing organic compound of titanium, with (IV) at least one aluminum halide compound to obtain a solid product, adding to this solid product (V) at least one compound selected from the group consisting of oxygen-containing organic compounds of one or more transition metals of Group IVa of the Periodic Table, and then treating the mixture with (VI) an aluminum halide compound, and (B) at least one catalyst component selected from the group consisting of organoaluminum compounds. A polymer having a desired molecular weight distribution and good configuration of particles can be obtained while maintaining high activity by the method of the present invention.

    A method for producing a stereospecific polyolefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a transition metal compound and an organometallic compound, wherein a catalyst system is used which comprises: (A) a solid catalyst component prepared by reacting a homogeneous solution containing (i) at least one member selected from the group consisting of metal magnesium and a hydroxylated organic compound, and oxygen-containing organic compounds of magnesium, (ii) an oxygen-containing organic compound of aluminum and (iii) an oxygen-containing organic compound of titanium, with (iv) at least one aluminum halide compound to obtain a solid product, and further reacting to this solid product (v) an electron-donative compound and (vi) a titanium halide compound, (B) at least one member selected from the group consisting of organometallic compounds of Groups IA, IIA, IIB, IIIB and IVB of the Periodic Table, and (C) an electron-donative compound. A highly stereospecific polymer having good configuration of particles can be obtained in good yield by the method of the present invention.
