  We describe: here a synthesis of (4S)-2-(acetoxymethyl)-4-(tert-butyldiphenylsilyloxy)-2-cyclopenten-1-one 1 from L-malic acid in seven steps via an intramolecular aldolization-dehydration cyclization reaction of the acyclic 1,6-dialdehyde 10.
