The present invention provides a resin particle (C) having a microparticle (A) fixed to or formed as a film on a surface of a resin particle (B) containing a resin (b), wherein the degree of swelling of the microparticle (A) by liquid or supercritical carbon dioxide (X) at a temperature lower than the glass transition temperature or the melting point of the microparticle (A) is 16% or less, and the microparticle (A) is at least one kind selected from the group consisting of a crystalline resin (a1), a noncrystalline resin (a2), and an inorganic compound (a3).

    The present invention provides    a friction modifier for a lubricating oil which comprises an oil-soluble copolymer (A) containing at least one unit of a monomer (a) represented by the general formula (1) and at least one unit of a monomer (b) represented by the general formula (2), and having a weight average molecular weight of 3,000 or more;         CH2=C(R1)-Q-(Z-A1)m-X     (1)         CH2=C(R3)-CO-(O-A2)n-OR4     (2)    a friction modifier composition comprising the above copolymer (A), and at least one species selected from the group consisting of a diluent and other additives; a lubricating oil composition comprising base oil, and the above friction modifier or friction modifier composition. These are excellent in the friction regulation effect, capable of reducing transmission shock, are high in the friction coefficient required for power transmission, and in addition, are excellent in wear resistance.
